Jibbo - The Curriculum in Action!

Today we held our weekly Jibbo market day. We thought we'd explain with some photos how it works and why it is so rich in learning for the students.

Every learning area is evident in use before, during and after our Wednesday market day. There is written, oral, and visual language involved in starting and running a business, advertising and filling in applications. There is a lot of inquiry skills involved in making the products and services to sell and there is, of course, an awful lot of money literacy at work when you are buying and selling, withdrawing and depositing and trading goods and services.

Have a look at these pics that give a small glimpse into today's learning in action.

The 'Hungry and Homeless' group are advertising their street entertainment at our advertising time. Every business has to advertise what, where and how much.

Here's our bank in operation. the class designed the 'Snidges' or money and they have a google doc with all of the student's accounts. You can withdraw some cash at the start of the day and deposit it back at the end.

This business is selling boiled eggs for $3 or $4 if you want your egg sliced. Every business has to 'add some value' to the free products they gather from home before they can sell them. And have their parents permission, as well!

This business has done some home baking - but no sugar! There is a 100% sugar tax.

This business is selling frozen berries! There are lots of decisions to be made about how much to charge, whether to offer a sale and even some bartering that goes on at times.
