Flipped Learning for Akotoa!

This week we introduced the idea of 'Flipped Learning' into our programme. This video below explains in a general way how learning can be 'flipped.'  You might have heard your student talking about this at home.

In a nutshell, a traditional classroom has students learning something in a workshop and then practising with some activities afterwards. Flipped Learning turns the other way around and encourages the student to Learn before they come to the workshop and then practise at the workshop. The workshop is used a chance to clarify, consolidate and clear up any questions students have.

In Akotoa we have started providing a few different ways they can learn before the workshop. We can use
  - online videos and demonstrations
  - hands on equipment and materials
  - activities and website links that explore the idea in different ways.

All of this is done within our learning pathways and helps students achieve their learning goals at their pace, in their way and at a time they choose. I wonder if many of you are learning at home right now?

  1. Website flipping is essentially the same process online. An investor, or investment group, buys an established website, adds value to it and then sells the site at a higher price. With the cost of entry into domain flipping increasing, following the sharply increasing valuations of domain names, website flipping has become more financially accessible to the average investor compared to domain name investment. Flipping On Steroids is the right place to learn more about that.
