2013 Highlights Book

This term we are writing a highlights book as a class. It will have pages that use pictures and text to explain the highlights from our Year 6 Camp and lots of sporting and cultural events, too.

This week we've been talking to a publisher who might be able to help us get the book printed professionally. Essential Resources, a great publishing company based here, in Invercargill, are helping us organise a visit to their office and we are really excited about meeting with their team to get the project rolling!

This week we are working on our second drafts to make our writing as 'wow' as we can. Here's a printed copy of Cassie's writing that we used to find as many 'wow' factors as we could. We also used the feedback given from teachers on our google doc and the Wha writing group are going to help us edit the GSPI next week.

Instructional Comics.

Today the Year 5s spent a quiet(er) day at school without the Year 6s who were at their New Entrants Days at College. We looked at how we could turn last week's instructional writing into published pieces of writing - just like some examples we found in some School Journals.

This was the criteria we created after looking at the Journal Articles. We had a good chat about what a 'colour palet' is and how authors use them to create a theme and contrast with their photos.

Then we used Comic Life on the ipad minis to move our text we had created last week on our google docs and copied and pasted the paragraphs into our comics. It was really fast to do that and most of our time was spent working out our layout, getting rid of blank spaces and making sure we had a good balance of images and text. What do you think of our finished product?
